Jeremy Knowles (he/him) is a British artist addressing issues related to life in the modern city through photography, sound, and walking. Jeremy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Photography from the University of the Arts London under the directorship of Duncan Wooldridge and Mervyn Arthur. He is currently a Master’s student at Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee within the department of Raumstrategien (Spatial Strategies) under the directorship of Pauline Doutreluingne, Nasan Tur, and Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung.

Jeremy regularly presents his projects in Germany and Europe. His artwork has also been presented in China, Russia, and the USA. Jeremy is a member of BBK Berlin (the Professional Artist’s Association) and, since 2024, the Lichtenberg Cultural Advisory Committee.

Whilst studying in London in 2015, Jeremy exhibited his photography project Rip Off at the Today Museum in Beijing. In 2018, he was shortlisted for BLOOOM Award in Germany and exhibited his photography series 8am Walks at Hoxton Arches in London. In 2019, Jeremy attended the residency program In-Between at Green Hill Gallery in Berlin and was later shortlisted for the Signature Art Prize in London. Also in 2019, Jeremy exhibited 8am Walks as an installation at the Affordable Art Fair in London. In 2020, Jeremy participated in two collaborative art projects: Neukölln Stories in Berlin and RAUM SPACE Festival in Kaliningrad. Earlier in 2020, Jeremy was awarded the ReA! Art Prize in Milan and shortlisted for the Verzasca Foto Awards in Switzerland. 8am Walks was published in print in FRESH EYES - New European Photography in 2020 and also exhibited at Photo Kyiv. In 2021, Jeremy facilitated workshops for 48 Stunden Neukölln in Berlin. Jeremy’s first solo show, YOU ARE HERE, was presented in 2021 at DISKURS Gallery. In 2022, Jeremy was awarded a research stipend from Stiftung Kunstfonds and Neustart Kultur to support his project Dark Sky City. He also facilitated the VR experience Bats in the Belfry for 48 Stunden Neukölln and workshops for Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In 2023, Jeremy was awarded funding from DRAUSSENSTADT Call for Action to realise his soundwalk Open the Night. Jeremy also exhibited his sound installation Im Tierpark Belauscht at Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa in Berlin and presented his audio essay The Multi-Energy Garden at Casa Zemstvei in Chișinău, Moldova. Two of Jeremy’s essays were published in print in 2023: Violent (De)Lights in the book Re:imagine Your City, published by Shift Books, and Unwanted Guests in Outline, a reader published by Kunsthochschule Weißensee. Jeremy’s essay The Moth in Me (and in Steve) will be published in Neuwerk Magazine, by Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, in 2024.
